    I have a WRT5G with DDWRT-micro installed on it, and a stand-alone DSL modem.

When the computer is connected directly to the modem, I'm getting about 4.5 mbit down, but connected through the router I'm getting 1.83 Mbit down.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?

The cable that goes from ADSL modem to the router is connected to which port in WRT54G? WAN port or one of LAN ports?

It's connected to the WAN port so I can monitor bandwidth usage and monthly totals. Nice name btw :D

edit: plugging it into a LAN port increased my connection to 4.46 (what its supposed to be). Is there anyway i can have that speed but connected to the WAN port?

Yes there is- faster router or faster firmware.
When you connect to WAN port- it's routing when to a LAN port- is switching.
DD-WRT is pretty bad at routing- close to 33% slower than a good stock firmware.
Since the speed of your connection is way too low for the difference between switching and routing to be visible it's a firmware problem.

Two choices- either upgrade DD-WRT or use Tomato instead.
In my opinion DD-WRT is more user friendly but Tomato is much faster when it comes to routing.
