My internet currently cable internet is very very slow. I use it to check sites and play online poker. However internet has all these issues. I used my iphone to play by activating a hotspot for my laptop. The issue with this is im using at least 35mb/hour. I was told it shouldn't be using this much. I dont stream video or check much sites at all. Is there reason why its using up so much data? I have skype turned off as well. But i do have lot of processes turned on but those processes im sure are necessary in order for computer to work. I do have networx in my laptop that shows how much data i use.

Can someone tell me what i can do to make sure all my things are turned off so im just using data for online poker? Also data here is very expensive which is why i ask this and obviously i dont like playing online poker with my data plan as you use it up really easily.

Okay so apparently i had dropbox syncing so i turned that off. I use avast but can someone tell me how i turn updates off with avast? i guess thats whats eating up my data on my phone when i use it on laptop? Does just disabling the avast solve the issue or i have to do something else? Because i been disabling avast when doing this but i still seem to use quite a bit of data...

Can someone tell me what i need to do in avast?

Having an AV software with updates disabled is like having no AV software at all. You should not disable it.
Avast does not use a lot of data and update packages are small.

Either way to answer your question - go to settings, choose update, click "settings" again (this time under "virus definitions" on the main screen) and change it from automatic to manual. Do the same below for program updates.

Now let me stress once more that you should not do this.

If you are using Win 8 you may change the Wi-Fi network to be treated as packet data network (which in this case it is) and that will save a bit of data usage too.

It is on indeed but it won't be worth much as protection unless it's regularly updated anyway.

No it won't. Not with automatic updates disabled.
That is unless there is a setting somewhere that is supposed to make Avast send suspicious/quarantined files for analysis.

Hi so to make sure no data is turned on, its fined if i turn off avast when on the data connection? I just make sure i dont visit any sites besides the main sites. I only use the data so i can play online poker etc.

Okay so my wifi on laptop doesn't work but it works on my iphone. So at the moment, im using data plan from my iphone for my laptop by connecting to my personal hotspot.

However...how do i connect to wifi only on my iphone without using the data? Thus only using the data on my laptop? The reaosn i ask this is b/c certain sites i visit, it uses a ton of data... basically i will use around 300mb an hour b/c certain sites i visit refreshes/updates a lot. So i rather do this on my iphone since the wifi works and i won't use up any data on it.

Can someone tell me how i can do this? Thus have my personal hotspot turned on with my iphone, then i do certain things on my laptop that does'nt use much data... but check the sites i need to that update on my iphone and make sure it uses wifi and not any of my data?

Sorry, I'm not an Apple-man so I have no idea what is or isn't possible on iOS.
