Ok i am kind of a newbie to the computer wold i can get around decent but i ran into a wall with my girlfriends computer and its killing me that i cant figure it out.

here is the problem. I have a linksys Rangeplus wireless router. The notebook which from what i can gather is a HP Pavilion dv6700 with a amd turion 64x2 mobile technology TL-60 2.00hz
    with a 64bit os.

I am using the factory wifi wireless card and it is finding and connecting to my wireless router. when i go to open up ANY web browser it gives me the internet cannot display the webpage.

i have done the appropriate system updates it tells me to do and nothing  i know it has worked on this router before but out of nowhere it stopped working. i have tried hooking it up directly to the ethernet cable and same think cannot display webpage. i dont know what else to do i have tried everything that i know how to do can anyone help push me in the right direction on what to do. if there is any info i can get for you let me know i can get it ip addresses default servers etc.

Are you certain it is connecting? What is the IP address you are getting? Can you ping the router? All browsers or just a specific browser? Do other applications that connect to the web work (for example, will an anti-virus or windows update occur?) Has this machine ever had a malware infection?

I recently ran into a computer where the malware infection had tweaked the user settings to route traffic through a defined proxy server (itself)...when the trojan was removed, no http connection was possible, but other applications (IM, email....) still worked.

Under the security options there is no malware protection on and when I click the find program it opens the web browser and shows the same cannot display wenpage message. It shows in the network sharing center that it is connected to the internet. She used to have limewire so I'm thinking it has a virus as stated in the post before

Use "ipconfig /all" from a command line (dos window) and post the results.

From command prompt do a "ping google.com" (w/out the quotes) and post those results. Your IP Address config. seems fine on your WLAN and the DNS server is pingable so you should be good to go.

Personally from post#1 i've been thinking this might be a firewall issue. Are you running any firewall/anti-virus programs on the machine?...that might possibly be blocking http/port 80 ports?

Have you tried accessing a direct link/web site instead of the default site the Home Page is set to? For ex. www.google.com

Maybe you can try downloading Avira Free using a working computer's Internet connection and running a virus scan...might be malware relatated as gerry mentioned. You can get the latest VDF (Virus Definiton File) from here and try doing a Manual Update.

You are correct it was a firewall issue she had her trial version of Norton and she tried to un install it she didn't un install the program completely so it still had a major firewall up not letting the computer acces any web page I took it off and bingo web browsing is back. I thank every one who helped with this
