I've been unable to maintain a consistent high speed of internet connection with my wireless router. Since my speeds can vary from 54mbps to 2 mbps... I updated my drivers for my wireless card, but I have the 2200 b/g card so I guess that's expected. I lag in every online game I play.. blah so annoying.

But I am also unable to connect to the internet with a hard wired
setup aswell. I know it's not the cable since I just used it with my desktop and it works fine. I know it isn't the router either since
my sister also has a hard wired connection and it's fine. I'm more worried about the hard wired connection since I'm willing to lose the mobility.

Might want to see if there is a firmware update for your router.

My speeds havebeen more consistent even though I haven't updated the firmware since I don't have a working wired connection.

Every so often I check my speeds and it says for the most part 54 mbps, but sometimes it dips to 24 mbps. Everything is fine, browsing is very fast and downloading from P2P apps is fast aswell but I always lag in War3 FT, CS:S.... After I disconnect out of a game I quickly go back to desktop and check my speeds and it says 54 mbps, then what could be wrong?

It could also be some interference from wireless phone for example. Are there any other wireless networks in the surrounding area?

    Regards, VidKo

the 54/24 meg readings are indiciative of your connection speed and to a lesser extent quality of connection to the router, but remember that your bottleneck is your internet connection which is significantly lower than either 54 or 24.

Nah it probaly isn't my internet connection since I do have Comcast cable. Also when I play on my desktop there is no lag in games whatsoever.

But it's possible for there to be wireless interference. Since we have a cordless phone and a microwave within 5 and 15 feet of my laptop. Do those two things only affect the wireless when they're either warming something up or the phone is ringing?

For the internet not working wired -

Did you have the Local Area Connection enabled?

Should Local Area connection be in Network Connections? I only have three icons in that folder wireless network connection, 1394 connection 2, and internet conection. All of them are enabled.

Yes, only have them enabled when you need them though. You don't have to, but i like doing in that way.

When you plug the computer in wired to an ethernet cable, and if internet doesn't work. Try disabling it, and then enabling it. Or vise versa where you disable it, and then re enable it. You don't need the 1934 connection enabled at all. And of course for wireless it needs to be enabled to get wireless
