Hi guys, will either of these draft N cards work in an HP dv9225?

If so, will the BIOS be an issue?

    Internal card 1

    Internal card 2

I know the ads show for a Dell, but a quick check of my card appears to show that it has the same type connector.

I'd love to be able to dump my external N card & use only internal wireless N with my N router.

Specs require if a 11g network is present, it MUST play well with others.

What i've read is that the older mobo's aren't setup up for the 3 antennas of the new Draft N wireless cards. Is this true? Is there the same problem with PCMCIA Draft N cards?

    Anyone know?
Better yet, here's a more direct question:

Are the cards used in an HP specific to only an HP, or can a Dell card be used in an HP?

If the interface is the same, and the drivers are available from some other source, not Dell. YES.

HP use to be know for having a specific hardware. But I think they have moved away from that stance to save money. Someone else would have to confirm.

Yes. A true 802.11N (draft or otherwise) implementation requires 3 antennas, which a laptop that was designed without 802.11N in mind will NOT have. They generally only have one antenna, or two if they're designed with 802.11a in mind as well (802.11a uses 5GHz, rather than the 2.4GHz of 802.11b/g, so requires a differently tuned antenna). You won't be able to use it, or at least not at full speed, in an older-model laptop with only one or two antennas.

No. Wireless cards require more than just Mini-PCIe compatibility, they also require the correct antenna connections. If those don't exist, even if the interface is fine, it won't work correctly, if at all.

That said, you may get the second card you listed to work, ButchN. It has two antenna connections, a white and a black, and if you have an Intel 3945abg card in your computer currently, it should work. I don't know if you'll get full 802.11n speeds, though.

Thanks, now here's an odd question, can't the antenna wire be added, or even jumpered?

Here's my current card (I unplugged it for the picture) & I'm guessing the main is the "b/g" antenna & the aux is the "a" antenna?

Also, will it matter is the antenna wires are swapped?
I'm sorry for the questions, but I haven't found much info on internal & this is the best place to look for that info.

Well guys/gals I got my new draft N internal card today, the 1st one that I listed in my 1st post, & I'm sad to report that it will not work with an HP, not now anyway.

Upon boot I got this error message:

    Internal wireless card not recognized
    System halted

So I had to put back my original card & as I suspected may happen, it's gotta be a BIOS issue.

So, anyone with a Dell want an internal draft N card for $50 shipped?
Yeah I'm taking a loss, but a small one vs. losing out all together by keeping it.
