Hi everyone....have a wireless router (Netgear 54G) in my house that my HP zv5220us is connected to when I'm home along with several other desktop computers. Lately and all of a sudden....my HP connects for a few minutes....then disconnects...then tells pops up the bubble in the lower right corner telling me it has detected networks....my network is listed...I select it....and I'm connected again.....this happens over and over every 5 minutes or so. Needless to say....really annoying. I have not tried connecting to another wireless lan in another location....but this does not happen to my desktop computers that are wirelessly connected so I can only assume it is something with my laptop antenna or card and not my router. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks...

by the way.....I do have WEP encryption but it worked fine for 6 months before I started having problems. I have temporarily disabled this to see if it might be contributing.

I've seen this problem somewhere along my work but i cant remember where. What type of wireless card are you using? Is it the Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG/2195ABG? If so what driver version are you using, and if its the latest drivers. try upgrading the drivers. How about the wireless client(software to manages your wireless) are you using the Factory one or the Windows Zero Config?

Aside from the lappy in my sig, I also have the exact same zv5220us that you have, and it looks like you have the same Netgear wireless router that I have ((WGR614). And guess what? I had the exact same problem you have. It worked ok for the first few months (though it would inexplicably log me off after exactly 2 hours).

After spending hours with heavily accented Netgear reps, they concluded that the problem was with my Internet Explorer browser. So I gave up on the wireless router until I finally decided to do a clean install. I got the idea after reading these forums not to fix my wireless issue, but to clean out my laptop of HP's crapware. You guessed right, it also fixed my wireless problem!!! I wish I could be more specific for you, but I'm happilly typing this now on my zv5220us through my wireless router. It's been flawless after 2 months so far.

This didn't happen with my new zv6000, so the problem has to be corrupted software in my zv5220us. Hope this helps and good luck.

thanks for the suggestions. I think the HP software cleanup will likely help. INterestingly....I turned of WEP encryption on my router (even though it was working for fine for months) and I it solved the problem....although I think there is clearly some incompatibility software wise in handling the WEP encryption that is the real source of the problem.
