Hello! I recently posted new thread about having internet problems

    My last post..

    Hello!

Two weeks ago I bought this wireless router ( Edimax BR-6204Wg ) ( it was the cheapest one, something like 50$). I`m really a newbie, don`t know a lot about this wireless routers and stuff.

    I need your help!

So I`m using the router for my laptop to have a wireless internet. Is there anything that I could improve wireless signal quality and performance.

I have full 5 connection bars and connection quality appears to be excellent, but it`s not..

*Every single hour it disconnects me and it takes 2-3 to disconnect me back.
*My Internet speed has reduced a lot. It takes forever to load videos on youtube, ping is high when I play online games..

Is there any way how can I improve wireless router internet quality or I`m in trouble that I have this Edimax BR-6204Wg?

    _____________________________________________________________

I dont think so thats it`s router what causes this disconnection problem..
I borrow my sisters friend laptop..and everything works excellent! i also have desktop pc which is connected wired to modem. It works excellent. So I guess there`s something wrong with my laptops wireless configuration.

I have Intel wireless wifi link 4965AGN
    router - Edimax BR-6204Wg

I updated Intel wireless drivers. Still got the same problem!
It disconnects me a lot. Especially in the morning time. Almost every 5 minutes I got disconnected!

Check you Power Settings, may be dropping it off to save energy. You can also find these under the adv port settings.

Inside the routers admin pages you will have a lease time setting, set this to max.

I noticed you do not have a valid DNS servers, normally these are not the same as your gateway and are public IP address.

Make sure your in Infrastructure mode and not Adhoc unless you connect to other wireless clients.

And you may have a chipset in the router that does not play well with your intel card.

Where I can find all the power settings? is it on the same router admin page?
Sorry I really dont understand a lot about wireless networking stuff.

Yeah, they were set to max, i changed them to 2 weeks and hoped it will change something.. Still no success..

Can I do something to change DNS server settings?

Whats between Infrastructure mode and not Adhoc ?

power setting is control panel. And some found under the port adv settings.

Adhoc is when you go from pc to pc via wireless. Infrastructure is when a AP is used.

If your not having a problem don't worry about it. Another words if you enter a domainname.com and it takes you to the site it's working.

The lease time is where the DHCP settings are normally found for your local lan.

The channel can make a difference depending on how many other devices are in your area.

Setup your WPA(2) AES security using a min of 20+ chrs. I get my keys from www.grc.com, select all printable chr for the best security. Save the full string to a notepad, then use cut and paste to enter the string. If you only want 20 chr, just select 20 and save it for further use. WEP and WPA-TKIP has know to have problems.
