    @ cbautis2
What's the difference between the 7265 and 7260?

It's only a guess on my part since there no information from Intel so I think it may be a different form than mini pci-e half height card.

After installing this new Wireless ProSet v16.5.0.15 on 2 Windows 7 x64 drives and 1 Windows 8.1 pre RTM build 9477 I found that the driver installed on Windows 7 x64 over over versions 16.1.0.14 and 16.1.3 without a problem but the driver version is not updated to 16.5.0.15.The version number remains the same in device manager.

When the installation of 16.5.0.15 was completed the installation successful message appeared.

When attempting to install 16.5.0.15 again I get the choice to repair, modify or uninstall.

On a clean install of Windows 8.1 pre RTM build 9477 where driver v16.0.0.5 is installed with the OS,the driver version gets updated in device manager to 16.5.0.15.

It's the same for Intel Centrino series where the version numbers are depend on the OS where the drivers are being installed. For example, even though Intel says the drivers for Centrino is 16.1.1, Windows 7 reports 15.9 while Windows 8 reports 15.10. I'm guessing Windows 8.1 preview will report 16.1.1.

As for the 7265, I'm guessing that it's just like the difference from Intel 6230 and 6235 where 6235 is basically a revamped 6230 with 802.11n ratified (instead of draft) specification. Therefore, the soon to be released 7265 will be a 7260 with the 802.11ac ratified specification that we have as of this time of writing.

I'm wondering if the ___5 means something else this time around...or maybe a rebrand with no actual hardware changes?

According to this not only is it already certified for AC but it is one of the devices used for testing other submissions:

    Code:
Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac mobile devices, tablets, laptops, consumer electronics products and networking gear will be available in the second half of this year. Enterprise environments and industrial applications will follow the consumer product adoption and will also benefit from higher performance for data intensive applications.

The first Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac products which form the test suite for the certification program are:

Broadcom BCM4360 5G WiFi Single Chip MAC/PHY/Radio for Clients and Routers

One thing different the 6235 has bluetooth 4.0 the 6230 only has bluetooth 2.0 to 3.0
