I just installed Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN on my Latitude XT, which has ATi (AMD) chipset, and I'm having serveral problems.

First, windows (vista) will freeze when I unplug power cord (running on battery). Temporary fix for this problem was to change wireless network card's power management configuration for battery mode to Maximum performance. (not so good when running low on battery :( )

Second, when I switch wireless antenna off then turn in back on, windows will freeze. I have not found solution for this problem other than not turnning of wireless at all. (and I do need to turn wireless off time to time. )

Reading descriptions of eBay sellers for this module (and some other intel wifi modules), they indicate only intel mainboard chipsets support it.

    Is this true?
Is that why I'm having problem with this card?

Hi, i am having the same problem like you but worse. The intel wifi 5300 will make my SXPS 13 freezes on start up green bars and shut down icon. It will also freezes when i disable the wifi or turn to power saver mode directly from high performance. So i changed back and doesn't know what to do with it.

Studio XPS 13 has nVidia chipset.

Guess, Intel Wi-Fi cards don't like non intel chipsets?

What is point of specifying standard interface when devices using same interface are not competible :(

yeah i think it only work with intel chipset due to the fact that i think they only make Intel based drivers for that wifi card

No no.... XPS M1330 does not use nVidia chipset, instead it uses Intel crestline (PM/GM965) chipset. The integrated graphic GMA X3100 model uses GM965 and the one with GeForce 8400M GS graphic has PM965 chipset. This is why XPS M1330 can use WiFi Link 5300.

I think it's just you who's run out of luck with WiFi Link 5300. I say it's possible that you got a defective card. Cause many people on the next door forum have reported successful in swapping their Intel 945 based notebook wireless card with Intel WiFi Link 5300.

At least my Dell Inspiron Mini 9 which has Intel 945GS chipset is now happily paired with Intel WiFi Link 5300. Especially that I also have done the 3rd antenna mod. :D

I have seen just as many folk also with i945 chipset based Notebooks that can't get the i5300 to work.

Netbooks, might be using newer revisions of the now very old i945 chipset.

Who knows, in the end I'm not the only one with the issue that has the i945 Chipset

Thank you for pointing out my misunderstanding. Please explain that studio xps 16 works properly with intel wifi 5300.
