    Hi,
I've got these options, which to choose? Is the 5300 better in terms of connectivity?

    Thanks

    I would get the 5300.

The 5100 has some connectivity, drop outs, and problems with N for some people.

The 5300 also has one more antenna, which may increase range.

i haven't had the chance to have any personal experience with the newer wifi-n cards yet. but i have read alot of people complainin about the 5100. the 5300 on the other hand has been gettin great reviews.

i will be lookin into a 17" notebook in the near future and i will definitely be goin with the 5300.

IF your laptop comes with the 5100 is there a way to swap it out for a 5300?

I noticed on the Dell Ireland site for the Studio 15, the Intel 5300 costs 20 euros more than the Intel 5100. If the drivers are good, I would be tempted to fork over the extra 20 euros.

You could but your notebook will lack the 3rd antenna wire in the monitor
so only 2 antenna will be connected.

I'd still like to know what the 5300 at 3x3 does for me that the 5100 at 2x3 does not. They claim 450 Mbs vs. 300 Mbs. Depending on what?

5300 is much better, check the Intel web site for a one on one comparison.

Is anyone else having an issue with the Intel 5300 as far as automatically reconnecting upon booting?

I have a Sager NP8660 with an Intel 5300 and when I am not using wireless I naturally disable it (via the FN key). Then when I need it I turn it back on and connect to the Internet just fine. However, when I am connected and then do a reboot and it boots back into Vista the wireless connection NEVER reconnects to my network successfully. It will show it disconnected (but it is turned on and enabled) in the network connections. Then after maybe 10-15 seconds it will connect but say "Local Only" and not "Local and the Internet" which it's supposed to. To reconnect I have to disable it and then re-enable and manually connect to the network. My Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG on my Latitude D830 for work never has this issue on my home network. It reconnects every single time with no issues.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great. I think I am at the most recent drivers because I went to Intel's website and downloaded it on Saturday (11/08/08). My Wi-Fi network is 802.11b/g with WEP encryption (I know, I know - terrible but there is one friggin wireless card on my cousin's old laptop that will not connect to my network unless it's open or WEP encryption). I realize this could just be a Sager NP8660 & Intel 5300 problem but I thought I'd ask here and see if anything could be of some help. I appreciate it in advance, thanks.

My D820 with a Intel 5300 (replaced the Intel 3945ABG) dont have any problems. My 5300 always connects fine.Never drops the connection.I put the D820 into sleep by closing the lid , and when i open the lid back up.The wi-fi and internet are back running befor the rest of the system id ready to go.

I have just a OEM Intel 5300 card with the newest intel drivers.(non-dell card).
I'm very happy with the set up.
Oh ya i have the D-link dIR-625.Not the best router but works fine for me.Getting almost full 300 speed anywhere in the house now. Well way in the basement(router on top floor) i get 80 to 130 speed.

Did you have any trouble with the installation of the wireless card? Did you have to add any wire or antenna?

I'm currently using in my Inspiron 6400/E1505 the wireless card 3945 ABG, and I would like to know if you got improvements in the strength of the signal.

    Thanks in advance.
