Ok well here is yet another thread on the 5100 AGN card .

    Here is what we know

    The 5100 vs 5300

The 5100 uses the bluetooth ( 5.4 GHz ) 20 MHZ band at least it does on my Clevo . With Bluetooth DISABLED the latest Intel drivers I am achieving a 300 MBPS connection dropping to around 270 then to 300 about 20 ft from my D-Link DIR-615 router on mixed mode 20/40 MHZ this is a true 5.4 ghz router but being consistent and the card is set to A/B/G mode. I have the wireless router with the latest Firmware also.

I had been working on this after thinking about getting a PCMCIA card for my other laptops and messing with this 5100 WiFi Link Intel card I am getting 300 mbps . I almost just fell off my chair.......... Whats the deal with this someone needs to get to the bottom of this ..

So you really don't "need" a 5300 series for 150 MBPS + or another card if you have a 5100 integrated card. I am using the $93 D-Link DIR-615..

First of all, bluetooth doesn't use 5.4GHz (at least by current design widely used in the market). It's 2.4GHz.

Second, if you are able to connect your 5100 at above 150Mbps, it means that you are not using 20MHz channel, it's 40MHz instead.

Third (as with the first), DIR-615 cannot use 5.4GHz frequency band. It's a single 2.4GHz band wireless router.

This shouldn't be a surprise, since WiFi Link 5100 is a 1x2 spatial streams wireless N adapter, so it should be able to have 300Mbps connection speed, but only at the receiving side. The transferring side is limited to 150Mbps.

    Well, that depends...

5300 is a 3x3 spatial streams wireless N adapter. Although its max potential speed of 450Mbps currently might be limited to 300Mbps since most wireless router only do 300Mbps, still for those who not only want to have high receiving speed but also "need" higher transferring speed, i.e. for file sharing, 5300 should give better performance than 5100.

You sir are very knowledgeable, I see what you are saying . Now If I had a way to just swap the 5100 with the 5300 on my Clevo M57RU , you are right even the 655 doesn't support 5.4 :(

Wish I would have known wireless N wouldn't be finalized until this year ..

In most cases, swapping wireless card is easy. Somebody at NBR Clevo forum should have known the procedure to open your M57RU chassis to get to the current 5100 card. Just be sure when you buy the 5300, you get the same size (full or half height) card as with the 5100, and before swapping the cards, you have deleted 5100 from Device Manager (but you don't need to uninstall the intel driver since both use the same driver).

You need not to worry. By any chance if you have bought at least draft 2.0 compliant wireless n hardware in these past 2 years, then what you have more or less should be functioning the same as the final one. And it's just a matter of upgrading firmware.

got another Intel 5100 related issue and seeking some help with it please:-

I recently purchased wireless speakers (Veho VSS-002W) and it currently seems to be interfering with my 5100's transmission. The exact problem is that browsing the web/page loading/connecting to homepage/downloading etc. all become very intermittent or completely "broken" when the Veho's USB wireless speaker transmitter is plugged in. If removed, everything is normal again.

I've tried changing channels but it hasn't solved the problem. Audio routed via the wireless speakers is always crystal clear (irrespective of channel selected) but the 5100 is always affected in that it experiences difficulty connecting to the internet.

The Veho operates on "2.4GHz GFSK transmitter with 8 selectable channels" which (I think) is the same as the Intel 5100. I also have a Logitech MX revolution but that is working fine. I thought that channel changing would fix this apparent interference problem but obviously it hasn't.

I havent tried reducing the transmission power output but i dont really want to experience signal degradation as a consequence. Do all wireless cards operate in the 2.4GHz band? If not, any suggestions for an expresscard solution so that i might be able to fix this.

    thanks in advance.

EDIT; EXTENSIVE CHANNEL TINKERING/SWTICHING SEEMS TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM.
