So, I've recently bought a new laptop containing the Intel PRO Wirless 2200BG networkcard and a Linksys WRT54GS to come with that.
When I search for wireless network, the list shows that there are no networks within this range.

A few days ago, I brought my laptop to school, where they use wireless network for internet. I tried to search for the wireless network which hundrets of students use every day. My computer found nothing, nadda.

I see that several people here have trouble with the connection dropping and disconnecting with this card. That is not my problem. My situation is that I can't find wireless networks at all.

All help will be appreciated :)

    That's not right..

Just a few basic things, the latest driver are installed right?

Bottom left corner, click the wireless to ON?

The disconnectiong/droppping has nothing to do with it I would assume since you can't even see any signals..

If the wireless drivers are installed, the switch is turned on and the settings done correctly, one final thing to try is to enable the SSID broadcasting on your router. I have seen issues like this when SSID broadcasting is disabled on the router and the wireless card not finding the network at all. Give it a try and see what happens.

coriolis: Where do you mean? the Start button is on my bottom left corner.
If i go to advanced settings for the network card, there is an ON and OFF button, mine is ON.

Venombite: I have downgraded my networkcard driver to 8.1.1.0
I have tried many different drivers, but with no luck.

There is a CD that came with the router, I ran it and I can't get past where the installation is supposed to connect to the switch.

Yes, the switch is turned on. Using it now on the other computers at home, also with the laptop, but I use wire's not wireless. Works perfectly fine.

SSID was already enabled, and I have the latest firmware for the switch.

What do you mean about settings? I havent done more than plugging it all in. Do I have to make some adjustements?

if you can't get the notebook to see any networks at home AND school, then it sounds like you don't have your wifi card turned on. did you install the intel proset software onto your notebook?

it would also help if you listed the make, model, specs of your notebook.

also, can you run "ipconfig /all" from your command prompt and post the results here?

ok, that helps, but do you have your wif card turned on?

there should be a hardware switch or a button combo (example: Fn+?) that toggles your wifi on/off.

are you sure that it is on?

    hahahahaha, ok...I feel stupid now...

I've been using the whole day on this, and now I found the on and off button for the WLAN. It has been right infront of my face all day!! LOL

ok, so now it works...but only with 11Mbps speed. How to get 54Mbps signal?

Thanks for all of your help guys/girls, I couldnt do it without you :p

ok, glad you got it working.

note that your connection speed is only as good as the weakest link in your chain. if you're connecting at 11 and you're router is capable of 54 (g) speeds, then check a couple things...

    1. make sure you've connected to your network and not somebody else's. you may have inadvertantly connected to someone else's wireless network which only runs at 11.

    2. go into your router configs and set your router for "G only"

    1. I can only find one wireless network, I checked if it is the signal from my switch which it is.
    2. I've now set the router for "G only", still I get 11Mbps. For a couple of seconds, it dropped down to 1Mbps and then up.

Now i'm thinking I can join the huge number of people having speed problems like in the large thread about 2200BG.

ok, then it's time for firmware and driver updates for the router and wifi card.

just so you know, i also have the 2200bg card and i connect to three different routers regularly. one is a B netgear router, one is a B/G trendnet router and one is a B/G netgear router.

i have no problems connecting to any of them.

edit: also make sure you don't have any interference close to the router like a cel phone or microwave, etc.

I brought the computer once again to school today. I got 54Mbps connection right away, but here at home, I only get 11Mbps stable.

I got the newest firmware for the switch, it is set to "G only" and the switch is 1 meter away from the notebook.

    What could it possibly be?

    Gef,

Make sure you're using the lastest Intel drivers from the Intel Website. The new version makes my 2200BG card stay connected at 54Mbps at all times. No speed drops at all.

I now use networkcard driver 9.0.2.1, the most recent driver I can find on Intel's webpage.

Firmware for the switch is v.4.70.6

Still, I get 11Mbps speed, nothing faster, nothing slower. The signal says excellent.

    I use channel 11 (2,462GHz)
