Hi Guys I'm new here Anyways, this is my first time buying a Gaming Laptop and my budget is under 1000$. I narrowed it down to Lenovo's IdeaPad Y510p, and almost all the components seems to satisfy me. However as I surf around the web some people seems to be complaining about the "Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230". I have no experience at all whatsoever on Network & Wi-Fi cards Lol ... so I kinda need help. Is the Network card really bad or something? Would it affect my Internet speed (I have Verizon FiOS)? I've always been using my Desktop and the speed is really fast for my standard (Connected to the router I think?), but if I were to switch over to the Y510p would it be slower? I download a-lot ... also gaming and watching video. Would the Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230 impact these things? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just so new to this.
Thanks so much!

Be sure to check out the Lenovo forum before you decide on your purchase:

New y510p with a wifi problem - Lenovo Community
You can also search "y510p" on that page, and get some problem threads, from other Y510P users.
I guess you've already seen this Intel page on the N-2230:
Intel Centrino Wireless N 2230 conectivity issue!
The main issues you need to understand with the Y510P are:
1. The N-2230 only has the 2.4 GHz band. You can't use the 5.0 GHz band, and you can't upgrade easily, because Lenovo white lists the WiFi card in the BIOS.
2. You can't effectively game on the battery. You must be plugged in to use the full benefits of the Nvidia GPU.
3. It comes with Windows 8. If you haven't "experienced" 8 yet, it's a learning curve.

I am so pissed at Lenovo, and I hate the Y510p. I may end up selling it on eBay if I can get a good price for it...no stable internet connection makes for a worthless laptop.
Have you had any luck? -
Don't expect support to give you a proper info on what cards are supported...it just won't happen.
Good luck. -
I also think I hate Lenovo more than the laptop itself. I've never seen such a poorly executed operation in both customer support and the support website, which seems piecemealed together with little valuable information (other than the owner's forums).
