ok its only been happening recently, the past few days or so.

I could connect to my neighbours wireless but not my own. my brother has the same thinkpad t500 and it can connect to our own network fine (5300 as well but diff drivers) and if it does, its ridiculously slow

i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but it doesnt seem to do a thing. i am only using the windows wireless to manage the connection. also have tried installing the intel software and thinkpad acess connections

also have tried both wep and wpa, same result.

any ideas what I should try next..?

make sure the adapter settings are on auto and then check your routerz; if it is single band (2.4) restrict it to 20mhz broadcast: a quirk of the 5300 is that it only sees/accepts 40 mhz broadcast on 5.4 band -- if your router is single 2.4 band and switches to 40 mhz the signal is not coming through. The absence of 5.4 will also preclude the 5300 from connecting at 300 full n speed and keep it to 130.

scratch that, now the drivers wont even install. i open them up and it says 'Please wait...' then the dialog dissapears and nothing happens..

windows update wont get it installed either

i know its not dead cause i booted into ubuntu live and it worked fine

    suggestions?

strange, i fixed it now. the problem is something with the router i believe. when i put the laptop on the same level as the router it works good. when its above the router. even over a table top, it becomes really slow.

this didnt happen before so I dont know why its happening now..
