Ok, so I ordered this card a couple weeks ago and got it in the mail a day ago. I went to download the drivers and software from intel's site because I have a Dell vostro 1500 and it isn't in the driver download list on the dell site. I tried the first driver release and the latest driver release, and none of them will fix this problem. According to Microsoft this is a driver issue. What I don't understand is why others on this site have used the same card on a Vostro 1500, but I can't figure out where to get the driver that will work. I am on Vista Ultimate 32 bit.

    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks

According to the link, the seller did mentioned that this card is for IBM or Lenovo. Ran a search in Ebay and there are card that was specifically made for Dell.

Card that was made for IBM or HP might not be compatible to Dell machine. You might want to contact the seller to ask for an exchange.

INTEL 5300 AGN 802.11n Wireless Mini PCI-E Card - IBM

That's the info i'm presented with, which indicates that it is for IBM's. You need to see if the seller will accept a return (which they may not since incompatibility in this case is not their fault) for an exchange.
You don't need one specifically for dell's, you just can't use one that is designed for HP or IBM/Lenovo's, since they lock their systems down to accept only certain cards.

I should be able to confirm this soon
Have ordered a i5300 of Ebay specifically for Dell (and most other Notebooks)
The auction warned it wouldn't work on a HP or Lenovo.

I already have a non working i5300, I can only assume this is a HP model and no worky on my Inspiron 9400

Will get back with results as I get it.

Just received my new i5300 for all Notebooks but Lenovo and HP.

It works fine now, so my other card must be a Lenovo/HP only card.
Which at the time I didn't know.

The Lenovo/Hp cards must come with a special firmware that the Lenovo/HP BIOS looks for.
What a ridiculous thing to have.

    Anywho, am connected at 300Mbps.
Card seems to be working just fine, must so a speed test and add it to the other tests I did some months back.

Interestingly, an IBM (Lenovo) card seems to work perfectly fine in a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Ubuntu, but not in Windows 7 on the same machine. That makes me think there's something in the Windows driver that's preventing it from running rather than the BIOS.
