Hi, out of the box, wireless on my sony SR190 with Intel 5100 a/b/g/n did not work!

Everytime I restart my PC I need to reinstall the intel drivers and smartWi connection utility - then restart my pc again, where it will work till the next time it shuts down or goes on hibernate.

Trying to debug without reinstalling the drivers - system does not detect the presence of wireless hardware all-together, and only BT (bluetooth) shows up under SmartWi

I tried restoring my system via the VAIO Recovery Center with no luck twice. Its a persistent problem.

I've even tried downgrading to XP - but the problem persists there too.

I've read that there can be interfence between Dual Band 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz dual band devices and BT??? But I don't think thats the problem because whilst running XP Ultimate - disabling BT did not bring about any changes.

    Really appreciate any help, thnx

    btw - Vista Business OS

All I can say is install the latest NIC drivers, make sure the wireless card is enabled, use Windows built-in network management application Wireless Zero Configuration.

Go to Start--> Run and type services.msc and hit enter. Set the Wireless Zero Config. service to Automatic and Start it. Also do the same for DNS and DHCP Client services.

    Get rid of the SmartWI!

makaveli72 - thnx for the reply!

I can still returnw my PC as its been less than 30 days, but knowing that its a software issue - I really wanna resolve the issue.

So - I've switched back to Vista, what seems to be working so far is

Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services -->
Wired AutoConfig Properties (Local) --> AUTOMATIC / & STARTED

Then --> (from under 'Service' as before) WLAN AutoConfig Properties -->
    AUTOMATIC / & STARTED

    & I've gotted rid of SmartWi !!!!

Lets hope this continues to work.

I'm starting to believe the Wireless Card is defective in some way. After all you've tried it on both XP and .Vista (two different types of drivers) and it still doesn't work properly. I say call up Sony and hear what they say.
