I bought a Gateway EC1803h running Vista Home Premium SP1 32-bit - great lappy, but I can't get the Intel 5100 AGN adapter to connect with my G router when using WPA encyrption. It only works if I use WEP or leave the network open. I tried a USB WiFi adapter on the same machine and it works with WPA. I'm using a Linksys WRT54GL router running Tomato firmware.

    I have tried the following:
    -changing the security key
    -changing channels
-router in G only & Mixed B/G mode
    -WPA/WPA2, Personal/Enterprise, AES/TKIP
-updating to the latest version of Tomato

    -updating adapter's drivers
    -disabling adapter's N mode
    -increasing power settings to adapter
    -enabling/disabling IPV6
    -Firewall on/off
    -updating to Service Pack 2
    -Windows 7 x64

    Any help would be appreciated.

What operating system are you running right now? Where did you get the driver for your card?

    Dual-booting Vista Home Premium x86 and Windows 7 x64.

The driver came pre-loaded, but I also tried the latest from the Intel website.

No connection with either operating system? Can you post the settings for your wifi card (device manager - network adapters - your adapter - advanced)?

I read through the OP, but still want to ask if OP tried with WPA/AES setting with WPS turned off?

    cheers ...

Nope. Any point in trying XP? I have a feeling it has everything to do with the driver and or a driver setting rather than the O/S.

    Here are my settings:
802.11n Channel Width for band 2.4: 20 MHz only
802.11n Channel Width for band 5.2: Auto
    802.11n Mode: Disabled
    Ad Hoc Channel 802.11 b/g: 11
Ad Hoc Default Wireless Mode: 802.11b/g
    Ad Hoc Power Management: Disabled
Ad Hoc QoS Mode: WMM Disabled
    Fat Channel Intolerant: Disabled
    Mixed Mode Protection: CTS-to-self Enabled
    Roaming Aggressiveness: Medium
    Throughput Enhancement: Disabled
    Transmit Power: Highest
    Wireless Mode: 802.11b/g

I don't believe my router supports WPS. There are no settings referring to it.

Have you tried changing the channels on the router? Try channel 2 - if that doesn't work, go through all the channels and see if you can find one that works.

similar problem with the acer in my sig and a wrt54g2
    WPA2 (AES)
the Toshiba never had a problem..i think it the centrino 2 cpu?

    solution process:
use the dhcp vista registry edit from microsoft website (solves connections problems)
    install intel proset application
    updgraded acer to win7
changed router to G mode only
changed channels tried two before it formed a solid connection. without any LAN connection using router

Can you be more specific in regards to the DHCP Vista registry edit? I'm pretty sure it's not the O/S, since my USB adapter works fine in Vista.

I've tried all the various modes and every damn channel. It won't even give me limited connectivity.

What do your router's logs say? Since you are running a custom firmware, have you asked for assistance at the Tomato website?

Hmm...WPA Personal AES or TKIP should work.

The only thing I can think of is updating to the latest Intel drivers (which you stated you've tried already) and also try deleting your Wireless Network on the computer and search for it again and try connecting once more. Verifying that you're entering the passkey correctly.

To remove the Wireless Network in Vista.

The logs don't say anything... nothing new shows up when I try to connect with it.

I tried my machine at a friend's house who has a D-Link 802.11g router and it worked instantly using WPA. So it seems there's something about my router or its firmware that doesn't like my wireless adapter. I find that surprising though since WRT54GL + Tomato is one of the most popular combos around.

I've seen a few threads about the 5100 and the WRT54G/WRT54GL routers. After reading them, I think the 5100 is a pretty crappy wifi card. You should google for "5100 AGN WRT54GL" and see if any of the results will help you.

the 5100AGN workly flawlessly in the toshiba, i don't know why.

try installing the newest drivers and the intel ProSET Utility it has a good diagnostic feature.
    http://www.intel.com/network/connectivity/products/wireless/proset/proset_software.htm

If you can't get IP address try the registry edit
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233

if your get dropped connection unplug LAN connections and change channel. turn off and on router and computer after every change.

Create a new wireless connection in the network manger every time you change a setting.
And make sure the SSID, encryption is the same.
if WRt54 is set to disable SSID brodcast, enable connect if not broadcasting in windows wireless connection...If your computer can't find router this is a possible problem

Finally if all else fails, try reseting the router and use the Wifi software that came with the router.

But the problem i had was not complicated it was solved by changing channel (interference from neighbors) and unplugging LAN connections.
Additionally i am using the default firmware, it set router manually
does your router have Mac address on, SSID Broadcast, check these things, this all i know. good luck this stuff is a headache

I just found something that might help. Since you're running Tomato, try disabling Turbo or Afterburner on the router. It solved this guy's problem: http://communities.intel.com/thread/4218

I don't normally take the time to register at sites unless I intend on posting regularly. I made an exception this time to specifically thank Kegobeer. And I would buy you one in a heartbeat if I could.

I've spent the last few days trying to solve this problem with my intel 5100 card and tomato firmware. Driving me NUTS. Thank god for google and keg!

    Again, much much much appreciated!
