I have a Dell XPS M1330 and recently installed an Intel 4965agn Mini Card. I have an Apple Time Capsule, when I set it to 5GHz N-Only my laptop cannot see the network, if I set it to 2.4GHz N-Only I can see and connect to the network. I cannot see or connect to the Time Capsule if I set it to A-Only.

Is the new hardware defective, or is there a configuration problem?

5ghz N -only settings are for Dual-Band Routers and Dual-Band Adapters. DBN allows access to the 2.4 and 5ghz networks independently - it's essentially 2 networks in one router.

The 4965AGN will not access the 5ghz N band, only the 2.4ghz N band. It will also access the 5ghz A band and the 2.4ghz G band.

    However...

Since Wireless A is 5ghz, if you have a Wireless A setting on your TC your adapter should be able to see it if you're trying to split your bands. Just make sure that the adapter is set for A/B/G,and Wireless N only is off. If the adapter is still set to Wireless N only (Enabled) that's why you can't see the A band. It needs to be off, and the adapter's Wireless Mode setting set to either 1, 5 or 6 (A, B/G, A/B/G).

My TC is the the older model, for radio modes I can choose; 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible), 802.11n only (2.4 GHz), 802.11n (802.11a compatible), and 802.11n only (5 GHz).

I disabled the N on the adapter, set it to a/b/g. Still can't see network when TC set to 802.11n (802.11a compatible), I can only connect to the first 2 of the TC settings and get connection speeds of 144 mbps.

Is there any Dual Band mini card adapters for the M1330, I thought 4965AGN was capable of 270 mbps?

Did you set the i4965 to use 11n and wide channel width (40Mhz) ?
Bother are needed to get it to go past 144Mbps

Where do I make these changes, in the adapter properties menu? I don't remember seeing a setting for wide channel width (40Mhz).

Hiya Cyber...If that is the case, then how is mine running 5 GHz "N"? Both adapters outlined in red are 4965agn cards.

Mine works just fine in 5Ghz band @ 300Mbps

Channel Width and 11n settings are important to be enabled on the i14965

If these are then there is a router issue, most likely not set to WPA(2) + AES encryption.

    I also get 300Mbps with 4965AGN on 5GHz.
What I think was important, I have manually selected channels in the router to be: 40MHz only, Wide channel = 38, standard channel = 40. This is because only then my 4965AGN was able to see and connect to 5GHz. It's because channel 40 = exactly 5.200GHz. If you look at 4965AGN settings you will seethey mention 5.2 so I thought I set my router to use exactly this channel and suddenly saw 5GHz network and was able to connect. Speed is 300Mbps. Bot: router and 4965 have rame Burst Enabled.
When I connect to 2.4GHz I get 144Mbps. It's strange because with other N router I could only get 130Mbps, never more.

Notice: in 2.4 mode 4965AGN does no do channel bonding, this is why it's limited to 130/144Mbps. This was limited by Intel. Buy newer card or non-intel to get channel bonding on 2.4 band.
