I'm trying to connect two barebone laptops with Ad Hoc wireless. One with intel 2200BG mini-pci (tested, working with many devices) and other new with 3945ABG. I create connection on 2200BG and try to connect from other. Laptops connect, both take IP (personal 169.254...) but after few seconds (some times during IP aquiring) 3945ABG loses connection. then tries to reconnect, loses, re... 2200 all the time shows excellent signal. Tried changing drivers, adjust channels, power setting and nothing helps :( I found some workaround: constant ping to 2200BG helps to keep connection alive. Any thoughs

If you are getting 169.254.y.z addresses, it means neither system is actually obtaining an IP address through DHCP. These addresses are handed out by the automatic private IP addressing "feature" of Windows XP. This means you'll have no default gateway, etc.

See what's wrong with your wireless router and why it isn't handing out addresses to either computer.

For ADHOC I would do a static IP since no router is in play. Making sure both are in the same subnet. Then make you connection between pc's.
