I just got my system up in running and only have one problem; my wireless card connecting and disconnecting from my network. I have a D Link 514 wireless B router that currently has one other wireless pc connected to it with no issues, however I cant keep a connection with my Dell. With wireless enabled, I am easily able to find my network, both default but one at 54mbs and another at 11mbs. The card keeps switching from one to another every time I click on a link or try and browse the internet. It goes back and forth and cant keep a connection. I am stumped on this one. I have the newest drivers from dell, I havent tried Intels as I think they are the same. I cant seem to find anyone with similar problems, what do you guys think?

ok i had this problem before and i asked more than 10 forums and eventually got the answer from ...my co-worker :D. here is how to solve: try to change the broadcast channel of the wireless adapter of your router to another channel. usually by default it is channel 6. try to change it to 11 or something else. i did the same thing and it works fine until now.

the reason is that if your neighbors have wireless adapters too configured at channel 6 too, the card is confused of which signal to pick. changing it to another channel will solve the problem.

I got my hopes up and still no luck. Ive tried about 5 channels so far and nothing has worked. The only thing it has done was mess up my connection more.

Any other advice? Im stumped here. Who should I look to for advice; Dell, Intel, DLINK?

    Thanks

you should change the channel ONLY and no other change to other configurations (hope you didnt). after changing a channel, restart your router and try again. it should be stable. if it is not, call dell. i use dlink and it works fine after changing the channel.

edit: the intel pro 2200b/g didnt have this problem. i guess they make the new model to be more sensitive.

I had the issue. I uninstalled the Intel Management software and let windows manage it. worked fine with NO drops in several weeks. Drove me crazy when using the Intel Mgmt tool.

The only channels you should EVER have your wireless on is 1, 6, or 11 if you do any others you will interfere with other wireless signals which can cause problems. I also personally would recommend getting rid of your s***link router and get a linksys one and throw a linux firmware on then, you have a real router :)

It sounds like one of your neighbors has an 802.11g wireless network with the same SSID. If you router and the neighbor's router have the SSID set to the same value -- such as "default" -- then your laptop may hop back and forth between the networks whenever signal strength varies slightly. This is especially true if your laptop is receiving a good signal from the neighbor's router, or a poor signal from your router.

The easiest fix for this is to change the SSID on your router. Set it to something unique that no one else in the area is using. Then set your Dell and your other PC to use the new SSID when connecting to your router.

Fixed it. I upgraded the firmware on my router and it solved the problem. I thought it was the newest but I checked and apparentely it wasnt. Thanks for the help, now I can actually enjoy my E1705. :)

I had this problem mine was just connecting and desconnecting, and each time i had this annoying beep.
What i did to solve it is to switch from the intel software to the built in software in microsoft. Now i it takes some reading but you'll find all the info in the microsoft website.
