Will Intel 2200BG minipci-card work in Compaq Evo N1020V? I know there's a minipci-slot but there's no antenna inside the notebook. I thought I could simply solder two 10" long wires to wlan card to work as antennas and put the wires somewhere under keyboard. Will that provide satisfactory wireless range or should I just go for a pcmcia card (and use the only available pcmcia slot)?

    Any comments?

I'd go pcmcia instead of tryint to do any kind of "surgery" on your laptop. What else are you going to use the slot for anyway?

Why I would like to get internal wlan apadter is because I think it might have better sensitivity even with self made antenna than pcmcia due to pcmcia's small antenna. Also, pccard doesn't go fully inside the notebook but stays out for an inch or so. Not a major issue but a bit annoying though. Bigger concern is that the Compaq's owner would propably need the pcmcia slot for USB 2.0 card.
