I am about to buy a new laptop. Not sure if the one I end up with will have a n router ability. My employer is buying it for me, for personal use, and not sure which one she will buy.

I will just be doing basic stuff on the computer, and only need a range of about 50 feet. Thru a few frame walls.

Can anyone recomend an inexpensive router?
    Thanks

You don't need N unless you are doing home networking stuff.

Cheap $50 Linksys will do wonders for you.

imo i like the linksys wrt150n. on amazon they can be found for as low as 50$ as a refurb, get one flash it with dd-wrt (super easy to do i can explain if you need it) and you have a heck of a router that will last for a long while yet and will do almost anything you could want of it if your needs change..one seller in particular i recc buying these from. pm me if you would like his info i have ordered more than a dozen for people and myself and not a single issue with him yet

usually refurbs are better than buying new because they have to check everything to make sure it works, but with new ones they only check certain things.

Refurbs are already lower price, and If they have to check everything then they lose even more money, which means they are losing money, and I don't think that's the business model.

Sometimes people just return what they bought whether they changed their mind or they receive it as a gift and they like another one, then those refurbs are practically new, then yes, they are a good purchase, but how can you tell which one is which?

but if it is still like new with no show of use, i would most likely only be repackaged.if you send in a broken/defective product and they send you a new replacement, they take the product check over everything and replace what is needed.if not that would mean more products being sent back and more being sent out, which would cost them money, especially if they replace a product with a brand new one.

+1 for A#1 and dave's suggestion. The OP doesn't sound like someone who wants to muck around flashing refurb routers with custom ROM's for a simple 50 foot wireless connection to the Internet.

The WRT54G ain't splashy, but it's cheap and reliable and will do exactly what the OP wants.
