I don't get it. I got laptop connect card with AT&T a year ago and its standard rate is $60/mo up to 5GB's. You and get a lesser data rate plan for $35/mo up to 200MB's, but anyone today would use that up in 1 day.
Here's the rub. The new Ipads with built in 3G connect cards, coming out at the end of the month, are being advertised as any carrier and if you go with AT&T you get " unlimited data" for $30/mo.  This pisses me off. They just crapped on anybody using a connect card. I can hear the conversation with AT&T already and them answering me with "Well why don't you just get an Ipad?" AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

That's the same pricing for smart-phones.

Except you'd probably be paying another $30 for your smart phone on top of the iPad plan.

I myself wouldn't mind a $30 all you can eat plan, as I'd rather a data plan on my iPad (if I had one) than my cell phone.

agreed it's FUBAR. If I needed 3G on my laptop, I would just tether it with my smartphone (might be against TOS but F wireless carriers).

The point is that for laptop users, who use connect card or other, are being charged TWICE the amount for the same thing. You can call it, "this plan" or "that plan", but the Ipad is a computer and will upload or download the same data that my laptop can. I already own the connect card. This is just BS!

Cricket has $40 a month for "unlimited" with a card. Still higher, but not THAT bad. I think it's even prepaid.

And there is no real "unlimited".

Unlimited 3G on ATT's network is like all you can eat at IHOP for a diabetic.

    Not really a great deal.

BTW, try to over 5 gigs on an ipad then see what happens to your bill.
(or jailbreak + tether to actually get it done and keep your sanity)

I have unlimited from 2006 on my plan and use not less than 20 gig no problems. Putting up with ridiculous charges from carriers is drinking the cool-aid. I use my computers and PDAs for work and personal use and do not own any of the apple/cool-aid products.

Or in my case (I own an iPhone) I'd have to pay third! :D Easier to just tether the iPhone if I really need it, and problem solved. ;)

I just tethered my iphone when I had it, so I don't mind about the discrepancy. As for that 5 GB/mo comment, I can barely get 500MB/mo let alone 5 GB...how does one even approach this amount while still having time to do other things. On top of this, I know its kind of illegal for at&t to throttle connections, but I swear they do it, which again, makes it more more tedious to get the value out of my unlimited plan.

seriously though, if anyone knows how to top out an unlimited plan, please do let me know. I've love to see how it turns out.

the kool-aid is great. anti-iPad comments were fashionable in March. not so much in April after people got to try it and found it to be good.
