    Guys,

I recently rebuilt my daughter's IBM R40 2893-BU1, with more memory and a new HD. I had to use the recovery discs provided w/ the laptop to install the OS (Windows XP Pro SP2) to the HD. I had attempted to use xxclone, to move the current HD contents to the new drive, but I'm guessing the hidden restore partition tripped up xxclone.

Rebuild w/ the recovery discs went well, with one exception. She is unable to connect to her wireless connection, a Linksys router. The wireless adapter in Device Mgr. says OK, and we successfully updated the driver with the latest from Lenovo. However, nothing shows up network wise.

Do those of you that know IBM laptops recall an IBM wireless utility that will override the Windows XP wireless? If so, how does one disable the IBM control, and return control to Windows?

I'm quite sure I'm missing important information, for troubleshooting purposes. Please let me know what else you'd need to determine what is (or isn't) going on here.

    TIA,

    Jeff

Yes it's called Access Connections. So the wireless card doesn't work with her router or not at all?

ZaZ, thanks for the reply. I don't have experience using the Access Connections, so I'm a bit in the dark, trying to diagnose this half a continent away.

However, we did get wireless working last night. I had her "walk through" the items in the system tray. One of those items was for the Intel 2100 Wireless LAN 3B controller. I don't recall the exact verbage, but from what I remember it had to do with turning on the antenna. Once we did that she was able to see her router, and input the SSID and encryption code.

I personally just let Windows do it, but good to hear it's working.

ZaZ, my daughter is now telling me she's seeing inconsistencies in how her wireless is performing. I'm going to get a look at her machine this week, as she'll be staying with us.

Is there a way, that you know of, to "disable" Access Connections from taking control of the wireless function, and letting Windows control it?

    TIA,

    Jeff

Uninstall it or prevent it from turning on with Windows.
