    I'll put it simple:
    My situation:
    1.My card is Dell 1390 802.11b/g card
2.My friend use another brand laptop which I don't know
3.When we connect to the university wifi, her connection tray shows 54m while mine is 11m

    Question:
Since my card is b/g(I presume so since Dell says so),why my connetion 11m and my friend's 54m?If she receives 54m signal, the university wifi should be g capacity but my card cannot recognize it and still take it for a b capacity?

it depends on if you have the card set to auto-detect, b, or g. it would be in your network card properties.

I had this same problem I had to change the channel of my router it helped alot.
At least now it will maintain 48 and 36 which is better but not great because I'm right next to the router my other two computers maintain 54 and 108 steady no drops. I think this 1390 WIFI card just sucks I'm replacing mine w/Atheros WiFi Card.
