Do you have any security features enabled... MAC filtering, encryption, etc?

As Tabbedout said, check if you have MAC filtering enabled. If you do and the ipod or laptop tries to connect, they will see the signal, but will not get an IP address from the router.

The one thing I haven't seen here is if you're absolutely sure you're seeing / connecting to your own network and not a neighbor's. Believe it or not it's a more common problem than people realize, and something no one thinks about.

When your system searches for a network it will show ANY wireless network within its range. With today's routers that could be several. If you're not using a unique SSID (specific name for your network, set on your Router) and just connect to the default SSID, you run the risk of connecting to the wrong network since the majority of people don't bother to change their SSID from the default. You think you're the only one where you live who has your kind of router? It's also one reason you can sit next to a router and not get a good signal (apparently anyway)

Change your SSID to a unique name, then do a search and connect - if you still have problems, at least you'll know it's with YOUR network and not some other bozo's.
