Alright, here is the deal. I just ordered S96J, it comes with Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (Tri-mode 802.11a/b/g) internal wireless card.
I currently own a desktop computer which has a verizon dsl internet. I use the westell modem model 2200. What do i need to get for wireless internet in my notebook? A wireless router? which one? cheaper price range + great distance( wanna use it outside the house, like on the deck...
    Thanks

You will just need a wireless router. My family has a Linksys wrt54g and it works great. The range is pretty good, but I don't use it outside often. There are range extending antennas, but more importantly, you should place the router in the center of the area where you will be using it--perhaps the kitchen--for maximum signal.

I'm sure that other users will chime in regarding routers--I've been out of that market for a year or so.

Nope, that would be a pc card or USB based wireless adapter. Your Asus has a built-in network card: the intel 3945 a/b/g. You'll just need to plug your modem into the router and then run a cable from the router to your desktop & configure the router to your liking.

    cheap, reliable, long-distance

    pick two. ;)

if you want something with a truly larger range, you're gonna have to shell out a bit of cash. Something like this should be good: http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/RangeMaxWirelessRoutersandGateways/WPN824.aspx

    Otherwise, just get a standard consumer-grade 802.11g router like a Linksys WRT54G or D-Link DI-524.

As for the physical set-up. The DSL plugs into the router, the desktop plugs into one of the LAN ports on a router, and the laptop communicates with the router via the wireless ethernet. Almost every consumer router will come with 4 LAN ports, you could actually add switches to connect a theoretical 254 different computers to the LAN, but that'd be pretty crazy.

This netgear wireless router, is it more advanced in range distance and stability without their wireless adapters? cuz the adapter cost ~$80 extra..

they say it can help standard adapters (like the one that'll come with your laptop,) as well.
