Thanks its very fast, but heres the thing hp just upgraded there line and i can still return this im being told In other thread to return it in favor of better video card i go from 256 to 512 but the chip is 2.2 instead of 2.4. i have no clue what to do but i can still send it back for another week. any thoughts??

Anyway as far as wirless can you elaborate as to why dlink over linksys? they are vey similar in specs except linksys costs about 100 more I want the very best i can find. not saying price makes it better.

Dlink would be my choice. Linksys has lost my support ever since the put out new model and use the old models PN.

But a final choice for me would be to see if either one is supported by the linux firmware dd-wrt.

I have an HP dv9500t with the AGN card and use a D-Link DIR-655. With the Intel Proset application I connect at N speeds; 130 Mbps. I like it for not only the N speed but also the QOS and great wireless coverage. I have had it running for about 3 weeks with no reboots or crashes.

bmwnick, I am in the same boat. I just received my hp 9500t with abgn/bluetooth. Before Christmas, I bought and installed the Netgear RangeMax N router (replacing my old g router) in anticipation of my new computer. However, I am only able to get 54 MPS off my wireless connection. We waited forever on Netgear's customer support line, finally spoke to someone in the Philippines, and found out absolutely nothing of value. (They told us that the Netgear router was not compatible with the Intel Pro/Wireless ABGN card and we needed to get a Netgear adapter card for n for the 9500t -- which was, needless to say, ridiculous!) Clearly, they didn't know what they were talking about so I am now sitting on HP's customer support line . . . waiting . . .

Are you using WPA with TKIP and AES Encryption? You need to have both enabled if you are using encryption to achieve N speeds. On my D-Link the options are: WPA or WPA2 and TKIP and AES.

Hmm do you both have the same routers? Like I said I have the Dlink DIR-655 and it connects at 130mbps.

Have you tried firmware updates for your routers?

The Intel Proset says Connected at 130MBPS and shows G and N as supported when I look at the wireless network. I will play games and it is definitely an improvement as far as lag, like MIMO (new wireless N feature) should support.

krik011, I tried your suggestions but it stayed at 54MPS.

However, just now, I saw this thread specifically discussing my Netgear Rangemax model and the Intel Pro Set 4965agn:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=176677

and I am now at 144MPS after switching from TKIP to AES encryption and changing from WPA to WPA-2. Not as fast as I would have hoped but faster at least.

bmwnick, instead of auto, set the router security to WPA2 and AES.

Actually, the recommended settings for the D-Link DIR-655 are as follows:

    • 802.11n/g (or locked to n if you have connection problems)
    • AES (you may have to select WPA2 to select AES, and since WPA2 is recommended for security, use it)
    • 20/40 Auto

By the way, we found out last night that the other (older) laptops in our house that used 802.11g card became quite unsteady (kept disconnecting) last night after I changed the settings on my Netgear router to AES and WPA-2. We finally solved that issue by updating/downloading the latest drivers for the wireless cards in our older laptops. My husband downloaded the latest driver off of Dell's website for his 1 year old Latitude and I'm about to do the same for my Lenovo work laptop.
