I just got an Asus G50Vt-A1 with a Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111(C)P Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) and it completely refuses to connect to my network at 1000mbps it will only do 100mbps and if I connect a cat6 cable to it the thing refuses to work what so ever. I have to use a cat5e on it to have it work and that at 100mbps. I know all my cables work just fine because I can test them on my main computer. I am pulling my hair out and have NO clue what to do! I have tried messing with the connection speeds in the properties of the device and even when i set it to 1gbps full duplex it still connects at 100mps and yes I have a gigabit network! What the heck is going on???

EDIT: I tried rolling back the drivers as windows update updated them, but nope....

Netgear Switch and WRT54G Linksys Router. I just went over to my friend's house and plugged into his D-Link Extremem N Gigabit router and it worked perfectly. So I came home and found a cable I didn't make myself lying in my closet and it works perfectly. I don't get it as I have always used the cables I make for my computers and my friends' computers as well and have never ran into a problem and now this laptop will only correctly use pre-made cables. I am wondering what would be different with them?

Which std are you using A or B, one has batter noise rejection than the other. http://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/ethernetcables.html Check to see what the factory cable are. If you make a break connections all the time I have seen the crimp connections loosen up. I have only found these use cable tester, normally I just cut both off and make them up again. GigE uses all 8 wires.
