I've installed a Huawei EM770W mini pci-e WWAN card in my Acer 3810T - the drivers for it are listed on the official Acer website. I'm running Windows 7 HP and all the drivers installed fine.

I've also installed antennae around the screen. But when I can't ever connect on 3 network. It finds networks OK but never actually does the deed. I've used other cards and connected so I'm assuming it's a simple setup problem... does anyone have the correct settings?

Oh just one thing, when I look at wireless connections it still shows 'option connect' (from an old card) despite the fact I uninstalled it completely.

I brought my 1810TZ in NZ and it came bundled with software to connect to our Vodafone telco. The WWAN card is the same. I never tried connecting to Vodafone as I am with a different telco.
I have the same issue as you though. The software sees the Telecom 3G network but when I try to connect it sits for a couple of minutes and then says it has failed to connect.
I have setup the right APN address in the software..

Hi Reb1, thanks for responding - the drivers I'm using (downloaded from the Acer support website) are identical to the ones in your link.

I'm still getting no connection, it's very strange. I've tried an option GMT378 and a Sierra MC8775 both of which worked fine. I bought the em770w because it has up-to-date windows 7 drivers and is listed on the Acer support site. So I kinda thought it would be 100% compatible!

This has to be something really simple - I know it's an OEM product but I'm really surprised that I'm having these problems. Could it be an antenna problem (unlikely since the other 3G cards worked)?? Nety, have you managed to resolve the issue?

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Hmmm - I've now got an O2 sim and huawei 169 dongle - using O2 connect the dongle connects fine without any problems.

When I take out the dongle and replace the sim in the back of my Acer 3810T, I can connect but the signal is much flakier... I think this points to an antenna problem.

Does it matter which lead (black or white) is connected to which connector? I have routed both leads around the top of the screen, they are old wi-fi pair from another machine... I had to remove the metal clips off the far ends to make them fit.

Any comments would be helpful (I don't mind appearing foolish lol)

UPDATE: I stripped out the old antennae which I'd installed around the screen and replaced them with these:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=400109065315&view=all&tid=72908395027

Ideally the antennae should go around the screen but it's far too thin to accommodate the terminators (the bits with the copper rectangles on them) so I placed them underneath the front of the laptop either side of the finger pad. Signal was fine although I'd say it was no better or worse than using the dongle.

My question now is how to force the Huawei WWAN module to use O2 Connection Manager in the same way as the dongle.

I only have 1GB pm (which is enough for me as I just use it on 3G for trips away where there's no wifi) however I'd still like to track my usage and keep up to date with my connection status. The O2 manager is one of the best I've seen for this as it also lets you know if there is any wifi in the area too.

Dunno if it helps (4 months later). I got the same issue as described. I deinstalled all 3g software and the driver (tick to remove it completely)and tried an older version (number ending 825 insted of 827) here: Version 825

Now its working fine for me.
