    Hp dv6205us wireless problem

    Hi,
    I have 2 laptops,HP dv6205us and Hp dv6226us and both were bought almost at the same the same time.Both have broadcomm wireless lan but in my Hpdv6205us ,its working very sow.
    Even when i try to place the laptops side by side,on one the internet is working at very good speed and the other one is sluggish.I have updated both to the newest driver but still the same effect.
    If it had not been working that i could think there is something wrong with the with the wirless card but it connects and even browse but very very slow.
    Has anyone ever experience this kind of problem?
    my wireless router is g and before this everything was working perfectly iwth the same setup.
    Hope someone can help me out here

    What are the power settings on the wireless for each card - are they both transmitting/receiving at full power? Is there anything in the event logs for the slow system that indicate a problem with the wireless card, wireless service, or TCP/IP? If you widely separate the two systems, does the problem continue to persist?

    One of them is not transmitting/receiving at a good speed even if i place it very close to the router and away from the other laptop.
    i opened the event logs but i didnt know what to do there.
    I was googling and found info on how to take out the wireless card so i took out both cards and switched them in opposites laptops but now the laptop in which previously card was working alright,this defective (which i thought) card also started working and in the other laptop,the card which was working alright before stated working slow.
    Now iam confused. i was thinking of buying a new wlan card as i saw them easily avaiable on ebay.

    Well, since you swapped NICs and the slow computer remained slow, that indicates that it's a problem somewhere's else in the slow computer, most likely in the software configuration - something is not configured properly or has become corrupted.

    Why not start off trying the built-in diagnostics for the network connection on the slow computer to see if that finds anything of interest.

    I tried everything in my knowledge but cant get to solve the problem.
    I bought an external usb wireless and its working fine now.
    I guess i`ll have to deal with it like this now.

    There's a couple of things that may be wrong that aren't driver related, some programs you can use to find the problem, and an HP design problem that could be at the root of it but just hasn't gotten to the point where it's failed.

    Network Monitoring

    Speed Meter Pro is a good network monitor program from Cisco that lets you scan your network and show you where your problems are coming from so you can narrow down the area that's being affected. It'll also tell you what's causing the problem, like interference, low signal, system resources, etc. It has a full trial version you can download.

    Keep in mind too that network resources are allocated on a first come-first served basis with older routers that don't have QoS (Quality of Service) configuration ability that allows the user to set priority access for devices on the network. If your other laptop is using resources, it stands to reason that your "problem system" is going to be slow. Check your Router's Admin Panel to see if you have QoS or not - it's usually under Applications and Gaming (Linksys anyway).

    Wireless Adapter Setup

    Make sure your Wireless Adapter Settings are optimal for connecting to your router. Open up Network and Sharing, then click on Manage Wireless Networks. Click on Adapter Properties, then the Configure button. Go through your settings and change them as needed to match your other system.

    System Resources

    Open your gadget window, and select the CPU/RAM gadget so you can monitor RAM resources visually on your desktop. Note when you have a network slowdown if you RAM resources are low. People forget that over time if you don't restart your system or have a RAM reclamation utility that system resources can get to the critical level, and will start using system HD space to compensate. If you have a 32 bit system, you can use Memory Boost to reclaim system RAM not returned to the system after application shutdown.

    Correct Network Connection

    First up - Is your Router's SSID a unique name that you can recognize? Most people when setting up a network don't bother with changing the SSID, and just leave the default. Problem is, if your neighbors do that, you can have overlapping networks with the same SSID - when you go to look for a wireless network to connect to, you automatically think the one listed is yours, but in actuality it could be a neighbor's network. You think you're the only one in the world who owns the same kind of router? This problem is more common than most people know.

    Access your Router Admin panel, and change the SSID to a unique name that you can recognize. On your system, delete the old network profile, and setup a new one, searching for the new SSID and connect to it. If there are other networks in the area, you'll be able to see them immediately. Remember also that any other system you have connected to that router will have to be reconnected to it as well. You should try just deleting the profile and setting up a new one first if you haven't already done that anyway.

    HP Design Problem - Wireless Networking

    This is a common problem with your system, and there is a Limited Extended Warranty from HP to fix it if your system qualifies. You'll need the Product # from the label underneath your system to determine if yours is on the list.
