I'm having some issues setting up my wireless file server.

The file server in my basement needs to get it's internet wirelessly from the top floor with a PCI card, and then share it to a router which distributes it to various computers and devices.

The problem I'm running into is that the file server can only share it's files when it's a CLIENT of the router, and it can only share it's internet when it is connected to the WAN/Host port of the router.

When it is connected through two gigabit cables as both the client and host to the router, everything goes crazy.

Can anyone offer some advice as to how to set everything up so it works properly?

I'm moving this to networking as it is a more appropriate section.

Any reason why you're going Internet -> File Server -> Router -> Other devices instead of hooking all your devices including the file server directly to one router so that all your devices get Internet from the router instead of having to go through the file server for internet? It seems a bit inefficient to me, but you probably have a valid reason to set up your network that way.

It should not matter whether it's wired or wireless. I set up all my servers with a Static IP. Then connect using the IP address/share. May want to confirm that the server has the same home group. Then check ACL on the server. You may have a FW restricting access too. Does it matter whether where it's Admin or end user account?
