I have a XP desktop and a Vista laptop hooked to cable as well as a Linksys WRT54G2 for the wireless. My question is how to I set up the network so that I can see my icons on my desktop as well as have access to all storage devices attached through my laptop? In other words I want my laptop to look and act just like my desktop.

It's called remote desktop in Windows XP Pro (The Home edition doesn't have it).

There are free-ware solutions also, next to a wide range of commercial solutions.

Actually home has it too, but it's the one being controlled. Requires XP Pro to control the home versions......

    Logmein
    &
    Teamviewer
are both free and easy to use programs for computer remote control.
Easier and more compatible than windows' remote connection software.

You don't even have to have remote desktop to do this. Just have a few desktop folders set to be shared over the network.
The icons and stuff will have to be available over RDP though.
