How to install internal WiFi cable antenna?

Hi All,
I purchased an internal cable antenna for my mini PCI wireless WiFi card which is just two separate cables that connect to the Aux and Main connectors on the card. At the other end of the cables is sort of metal clip attached to a metalic sticker (please see attachement photos). My question is are these two ends of the cables supposed to stick together at the top of the screen to form a sort of loop antenna or are they supposed to be stuck on either side of the screen like two whip antennas?

usually one is on the screen and the other is around the base. what make and model laptop do you have?

 

Both of mine are on the top of the lcd. I have seen some that are set with one on top and the other on the side. My guess higher is better.

 

It's an old Acer TM230, some were factory fitted with an internal antenna but mine wasn't. So do you mean the cables should be perpendicular to each other for best reception? ie when the screen is flipped up it's approximately at right angles to the base. Is that how internal antenna's are fitted to new notebooks?

Also should the metallic fittings at the end of each cable ( as seen in the photos ) be attached to some metal on the notebook? If so this would effectively connect "short" both ends together, this dosn't sound right. I'm assuming the glue on the foil tape when the backing is removed is an insulator and so its supposed to act as a sort of ground plane.

It's all pretty complicated for just 2 damn wires.

Are they electrically connected together? or physically separated at either corner of the screen?

 

The AUX (GRAY CABLE) Should be fitted to the top of the notebook on the left hand and the main should be fittd to the right hand side. I had a Toshiba L20 notebook and the antenna was fitted to the LCD pannel.

Ok it was very easy lol

1. take the plastic trim from around the LCD pannel remove the screws to release the LCD Pannel

2. then fit the 2 antenna wires as follows to the top of the lid AUX (GRAY) on the left hand side and the main (BLACK) to the right hand side.

(TIP) I used dubble sided pads to fit mine as i had no where i could screw them down, Make sure they dont touch the LCD Pannel.

3. Run the wires down the back of the LCD Pannel, tape them down where necessary and though the base of the laptop.

4. Connect the main and aux to you miniPCI wifi card and put the laptop back together.

Thats it your done!!
