Anyone have any ideas on how to? I live on campus and sometimes in my dorm the signal drops down to 3 to 2 bars. So I was wondering are there any ways to stop that?

If it helps I have a broadcom 4321AG 802.11 a/b/g/draft-n WIFI Adapter in a HP laptop. thanks

That's true, we call that a reflector, but you will change the antenna pattern perhaps for your own benefit but you will punish the other student using the same router. I'm assuming this is the situation at campus, a router for a floor or two, or even for the whole building.

You can try disabling the power saving feature on your wireless adapter, but this may cost several minutes of battery life.

A friend of mind carries a mirror around with him and sets his laptop on top of it. He swears by it, though I've never had occasion to try for myself.

That one is to low of gain he needs something like this so it will not pick up interference from other devices.

This antenna will help only if the interference is coming from other (out of the 60 degree beam width) direction than the router, but if the interference is coming from within the 60 degree beam width from of the router's antenna direction, it won't help.

I use a Wi-Fire to boost my signal. I can connect at incredible distances with the wi-fire compared to my internal card. I never have dropped connections and it won't interfere with anyone else trying to use the router. It's a network adapter that plugs right into my USB port. So if you can spare a USB port it's totally worth it.

    Check it out at www.hfield.com

you could invest in a decent WAP capible of 'Client' mode...hooks up to your LAN connection on your PC...acts as a wireless bridge...can't say enough about hawking signal boosters...work from either end...broadcast...or client

I think it works, but it's kind of impractical in some cases.

    Wirelessman,

It's not really bulky. I sit it next to me on my desk. It has a clip to hang it on my laptop, but I prefer to put it on the desk because I don't like to have anything on my screen. I dont' think it takes up any more space than the hawking products you suggested.

It works well and that's what I really care about. :)

I saw it, I thought the only way was to clip it to the screen, so it's bulky, but I guess if you put it on the desk is alright, the hawking devices are stand alone so although bigger they can be put almost anywhere. Does Wi-Fire comes iwth a desktop stand too?

I might get it for myself just to try it.

The Wi-Fire can clip to the screen of a laptop or you can swivel the bottom around to be flat and it will sit on a desk. It is not a separate stand, there are just two configurations for it. So it can be stand alone. It even comes with a cool retractable USB cord so you can sit it as close or far from you as you want without the cord getting in the way.

I bought mine from hField, but you can get it from a bunch of places online too.

What is the length of the retractable cord?

The cord is about 4ft fully extended. I did take it off once an replace it with a longer USB cable so I could put the Wi-Fire near the window without having to sit next to it. It worked just the same with the longer cable.

Nice, it seems like a good product. These days more and more things connect in the USB ports, one day there will be just that, remember my words.
