How to check who is using my Wifi?

I have my own internet. I gave my wifi password to someone to use because the building wifi is down. We have wifi where everyone can use the wifi but i have my own internet and modem/router etc.


My modem/router is called Arris.


Can someone tell me how i can find out if the person i gave my wifi password is still using my wifi? The only reason they asked me for it was because the wifi in the building was out so they needed to use the wifi.


I recalled you can go to 192.16.0.1 to check it right? That is the arris site.


But where i can check this? And would it show the current devices currently using my wifi connection?

 

I took a look on wireless setup.


On wireless client list there is


My Iphone 192.168.0
This line is blank for some reason 0.0.0.0
A name that i do not recognize 192.168.07
Desktop- XXXXX 192.168.0.



There is also a mac address for each one.


So how many devices are currently connected to this network? Is it 3? And why does the 2nd line for something showing 0.0.0.0 and a mac address there as well?


The thing is the name that i do not recognize, it sounds like a bit like the name of the person that i gave my wifi password to. They were in my apartment when using my wifi. Then they went back up to their apartment so i assume they are still using the wifi there because it shows it being connected?


So if they no longer connect to my wifi, then that name wouldn't show up anymore?


The only reason they are using my wifi because our building wifi doesn't work. And now it seems the wifi is still down.

Hard to say without more information. The 0.0.0.0 could just be the default route (To the internet AKA YOUR ISP)

Why don't you just change your WiFi password?

 

Yes, though you might first check whether they don't need your wifi anymore. If you're worried about security then you might create a second, separate wifi network for these guest users (assuming your router or ap supports that option).

That the ips+macs show up does not necessarily mean these are actively connected. Your router automatically assigned them an ip when they first connected (with DHCP on) and will keep that reservation for a while, even if the devices are no longer connected. This period can be adjusted in the router or whichever device functions as the DHCP server. Mine shows 13 active connections, 9 static/fixed ips (for access points, nases and a printer) and about 80 previously-assigned ips (have set lease time to four weeks).

Do make certain you Arris router is not still using its default password; anyone that you've granted access to your wifi can easily find out its default ip and password by googling the manual.

 

You can check by browsing to your router page and see all active devices/MAC addresses. If you are suspecting unauthorized access, change your password!

 

This. I would also disable admin access through wi-fi and make it wired only. Sure, it means that you need to hook up to it with an ethernet cable if you want to change th config, but it also prevents people from messing with your settings remotely even if they somehow get access to your wi-fi.
