I'm using Mozilla Firefox and wireless. If I leave the computer idle for some 5 min or so, it goes offline, and often, after I unchecked "work offline", the wireless is still disconnected, and can't be reconnected even if I go to "Find wireless network" and "connect", it still doesn't connect. The only way is to restart the computer. How to avoid it going offline? Is this Firefox issue or Thinkpad (x61s) issue?

Do you have power saving enabled on the wireless adapter? Plenty of devices have trouble waking up after they've been put into power save mode.

I'm not sure--how to check that? Thanks!

IIRC, in XP, go to [Network Connections] > right click & properties on [your wireless connection] > configure > power management tab > uncheck stuff.

Other OSes are probably pretty similar

Thanks--I found it! I unchecked "allow computer to turn this off to save power". Let's see if it will solve the problem next time!

thats is usually the culprit as it is usually enabled by default....I always check the power options upon receipt of a new rig...need a little tweaking.

Hi again... Well, it didn't work :( It went offline again, and (like before), when I press the ThinkVantage's "Find Wireless Networks", nothing happens, so I can't even try to reconnect, and had to restart the computer. I checked what I had set above per your suggestion, and it was still disabled (unchecked), so I don't know what's the problem.

I assume you've already updated Wi-Fi card drivers, if not please do so either from Lenovo website or from the actual Wi-Fi chip/card manufacturer website.
