My housemate bought this router, LINKSYS WRT110 IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g RangePlus-n Wireless Router which is horrible. My PS3 is only 20ft from the router, without any walls and gets a terrible signla, not to mention the router itself seems to be very slow ( i don't think its our provider/modem).

Is there anyway to improve the speed of the router? I know absolutely nothing about routers.

    Thank you

I can only help you with the router. I don't own a PS3.

I assume the router works with other devices like your laptop. And they are getting a good signal?

Try plugging your laptop directly into the router, and run a speed test. If it's slow hard-wired, then plug your laptop into the modem. If the speed test is still slow, it's your ISP. If it's fast plugged into your modem, then your router has issues (maybe a firewall?). If it's fast plugged into your router, then your wireless is the problem, in which case you might want to change the band/channel, to get a better signal.

Will do the speed test when i'm done with work, thank you for the advice. It's slow with everything, and i've read many negative reviews of the router on newegg.com, not to mention it's weak single strength. Downloads on all of my housemate's computers are slow, xbox and ps3 connections are very slow and there's weeks when the connection is painfully and noticeably slower.

This could be part of the problem. How many connections are on at once? If everyone is on at the same time and you have low bandwith, then the whole system is going to be slow.
