I'm trying to connect my Vista to my XP network, but with no success.

My Desktop / other laptop is connected to the same workgroup with no problem (both on XP) and can share everything. I want my Vista to join the party, but it's not working. Help.

Vista's default workgroup name is different then xp's so you may try that if you haven't.

Well, hope this works for you, I did it just yesterday.

Make a shared folder for the Vista computer, and remember the filepath.
    Such as : "\\bob\users\bob\desktop\share"

Then, type that into the XP computer, and input any password that you had for the user bob on the Vista computer. From there, just drag what you want to share into the Vista computer.

Hope that helps, if you want to transfer files.

Workgroup is the same on Vista and XP.

I don't know how to change port to IP4?

I want to try that shared folder thing but they complicated Vista so much I have no idea how to do it. I'm so annoyed with this Vista - why is everything so difficult! :(

Do a rt clink on the port then check the properties. There should be a box for IP4

IP4 and 6 are both ticked.

I've managed to get it to this stage so far. AMD being XP, VAIO being the Vista.
