Well, Americans, how long ago did you have one ISP with cable? Because thats the state the UK is in right now, but I am trying to estimate how long it will be untill a FiOS like thing is availabe. BTW, the one ISP that does offer cable is Virgin Media, at 20MB. There is one ISP that is ADSL2, that offers speeds of 22MB, and all non cable exchanges are owned by BT (British Telecoms).

How long ago were you in this situation?

FiOS is very limited in the United States. The vast majority of places still rely on Cable and DSL.

So to answer your question, most of us are still in this situation.

I would live in a place where it would become available first though, and America is in alot better position. The cable for 20MB would be 70dollars a month btw..

I think you mean 20 Mbps.

In my area (Rockland County, New York in the US), there's DSL (Verizon), cable (Cablevision), FiOS (Verizon), satelite internet, and 3G cellular access. I'm on cable internet right now because it's a better deal than FiOS. 15/2Mbps for $30 as part of a $90 plan for phone, internet, and TV is pretty sweet. FiOS's is $45, but you can get it in a triple service bundle - which is $95. But they cut your cable line, that's before various Verizon fees, the price jumps after the first year, and you have to sign a 1-year contract.

    Yeah.. sorry I meant 20mbps.

So.. how long ago was there no FiOS and Cable in about half of America...

Also, to people with Verizon on there phones, what Phone supplier thing do you get in England (i.e. Orange, Vodafone)?

    Thanks

I believe you have a very distorted view of FiOS availability in the US. FiOS is brand new, and only available in very select markets. You can find a map here:
