I just got a new i9300 and i know nothing about wireless internet. When i start it up in my house, it immedietly starts searching for connections, then it connects to my neighbors connection  The only way ive found to stop it from doing that is to disable the wireless. I went into the properties and was really confused, there was stuff about hardware radio and letting microsoft manage my connections etc. etc., does anyone know of a guide on how to optimize and set up your wireless on a new laptop? thanks

This should be in the Wireless section.

Yeah, I have to ask the same questions drumfu just asked.

If you just want it not to connect to anything, you can simply turn off the wireless radio.

Yeah, turn off the wireless if you are not using it - that will give you better battery life as well.

I dont have a wireless router, but my neighbor does and it keeps connecting to it when i turn my laptop on, i went into settings and there is a option for microsoft to manage your wireless or for you to do it, there is also a "Turn off Hardware Radio" thing too, i just dont know what any of this means.

My goal is, when i turn my computer on, if i WANT to connect to a wireless signal, i can open something myself and search for signals and connect, rather than having the computer do it all for me automatically

Turn off the hardware radio, then. I'd think it should remember this setting when you shutdown or restart. When you want to connect to something, turn it back on.

turn your wifi card off. should be BIOS setting if you want to to be off when you boot up. to turn it on after the notebook is up and running, there should be a hardware switch or a key combination toggle like "Fn+__"

should be in your user manual
