OK, I have two laptops both with a wireless networking card. I haven't been able to get an ad-hoc network going between the two and I don't have a router.

One laptop is upstairs and one is downstairs.

I have a printer connected to the downstairs laptop via an USB cable.

Now, the question is: How do I connect the two laptops so that first, we can share the downstairs connection (dial-up & DSL) with the computer upstairs and second, we can have the upstairs computer print on the printer through the downstairs computer/router/etc.

I would prefer to prefer not buying a router or a networking gizmo of some sort to do this but any suggestion will be taken thankfully.

Thanks! and I look forward to your responses.
