So my router is wireless n (and broadcasting it, along with b and g) and my laptop is wireless n capable, but when looking at the realtek controller it says I'm only connected to g and can't seem to see any option to change it. How do I connect to wireless n?

You need to list your particular router and wireless adapter if you want clear instructions, but generally, turn off mixed mode so it is ONLY wireless N. The problem is that if you have other wireless b and g devices, they will not connect.

Depending on the router, you may need to adjust other settings to get optimal performance.

Ya, that's the problem, I need to send out mixed because of my Iphone. So there's absolutely no way to get N when it's sending out mixed? What's even the point of mixed if you can't choose?

You should be able to set your laptop to N only device manager.
