    My Husband Just Recently Bought An Acer Laptop And Needs Too Hook Up Too The Net, And We Have Only The Cable Modem And If I Am Correct. Does He Need Too Install It On His Laptop?

    If you have wifi no. If you have ethernet cable, you just plug it in the ethernet port.

    Like F!nn wrote, run with ethernet or wi-fi if you don't want to install anything. It's a lot simpler than with USB. :p

    Nope, I have a cable service, and it is really easy as the other posters stated, just start the modem and plug the Ethernet cable into the port on the modem and connect the other end to the same looking port on the laptop. Wait 10 second for the machine to get an address and you are set!
