Hello everyone,
I'm a first time poster looking for help connecting to my internet capable games from my hotel rooms. I travel quite a bit for work and I am an avid gamer, however I can never connect to my games from the Hotels I stay at. I was hoping since this is a 'notebook forum', others would have similar experiences with gaming difficulties from hotels and cafes. I'm connected through the LAN line, not wifi. I've called the hotel ISP's and they have been friendly but no help. They've checked to make sure the game's required UDP and TCP ports have been opened and I've even run the 'STEAM' (I play Counterstrike mostly) connection test and all ports passed. The ISP claim to have no firewalls preventing access for these applications. I find the same problem repeated at many Hotels. I'm at a loss...... ISP providers that I've experienced these issues with are GoldenTree and GuestTek. Any help appreciated.
Correction: I can connect to steam with my login but I cannot see any open games in the server list. I have the same problem with Call of Duty 2.

I believe that Hotel wi-fi(s) are primarily for business users, so they might not expect people needing UDP/TCP ports open - and so, they block those ports to prevent unauthorized access and/or attacks to their system.
If you REALLY need to game on the go, you might want to get a cell phone provider solution, such as a PCMCIA/USB 3G receiver for your notebook. You have to pay hefty broadband fees on a monthly basis, but it might be worth it to you. -

Thanks for the replies but these are not options for me as they are unaffordable... if they are even available in my region. I was hoping for solutions that involve changing settings on the ISP or my end that would allow for these applications to run. Please note, in most cases I use the RJ-45 connector at hotels. I rarely use the available wi-fi.
