My set-up is a DLink 604 connected to 2 desktops, and a DLink 624 connected to the 604. The 624 is providing both wired and wireless internet to my laptop (Asus A7J running XP).

The problem is with file and printer sharing. Both desktops share files with no problems, but the laptop cannot see or share anything from them, wired or wireless with the 624. Connecting the laptop to the 604 (wired) solves this problem. Windows firewall is off, and no other weird software is being used. Are there some settings I have to change inside he 624 to make it work? Something with firewall perhaps? Thanks in advance.

the 624 shouldnt have any firewall enabled since your using the firewall on the 604. I would turn off all security in the 624. Thats my only guess, GL

As Sykotic said turn off the NAT in the 624. Some times this is called Clasic routing. Turn off DHCP on the 624 and let the 604 handle it, should fix your problem. Everybody will be on the same subnet.

ok I have never done it on a D-Link but this is how you setup Linksys Routers for that, should be able to figure it out on the D-Link. Assume the modem is the 604 and the Linksys is the 624. Wish I could help more.

Huge thanks to all who replied. I turned off DHCP on the 624, and internet worked OK, but files still weren't shared. I then followed ZJChaser's advice, and now everything is perfect. DLink routers don't have an option for router/gateway switching, so I just ignored that step. Putting the 'slave' router on the same subnet seems to have been the crucial step, as well as using the LAN ports instead of WAN. Again, thanks a lot guys. =)
