    Okay, so basically, I only have sketchy details, but I can IM him.
    So yeah, what happened is that he's no longer got a DNS IP? I don't know if that means anything to anyone, we both suck at networking.
    So, how did he do this, you may I ask(yes, this is going to have a terrible layout)? WELL, I think he did a router upgrade, which somehow wiped all his settings.
    So, to conclue;
    He can:
    Connect to the router
    Change the routers settings
    He can't:
    Do anything on the Internet
    Own me(sorry, I had to throw that in there, since he doesn't have an account here, and can't back him self up and all... xD).
    So, does anyone have any help? Thanks in advance,
    EMZ=]
    EDIT:
    (00:36:00) Matthew102000: lemme get my router type and my isp...
    (00:36:06) Matthew102000: my isp is frontier communications...
    (00:37:59) Matthew102000: Netgear wgr614 v7
    If that is of any help, lol.

    If he can't connect to internet how can you IM him?

    Most modems have diagnostics which shows the problem.May be he switchd off/changed DHCP IP to static in modem settings.And all modems should have a reset button somewhere phsically.

    His current computer probably still has the address set to the old router.

    Tell him to enable DHCP in his router. (its probably enabled anyway)

    Go to the command prompt and type in "netsh interface ip set address local dhcp"

    That will enable DHCP to automatically optain address.

    Also his ISP might have limited the connection to the routers MAC address

    Try unplugging and replugging first the modem (if you have one) and then the router.

    If this does not work, you say he is having a dns problem? dns is a translation between the domain name (ie. google.com) and its ip address (ie. 209.85.171.100). Ask him to first ping google.com and if that fails ask him to ping the ip address i listed. If that too fails then it is not a dns problem, and we will look further into it.
