Alright, first off, this is the one area in computers that I no absolutely nothing about. Basically, we have three computers hooked into our wireless network. All three of them say they are getting an "Excellent signal", however, none of them can connect to the internet. I rechecked the WEP key, and it is correct. I don't know what is going on. Comcast just came out and replaced our router, and the internet worked for a few days, but now it stopped again. Does anyone know why this would happen? Thanks in advance! :)

    need to know:

    1. what is the topology of your LAN (what components do you have and how are they connected)?
    2. does it work wired?
    3. what are your ipconfig settings (from the command prompt, type ipconfig /all) and post your results

Perhaps a router firmware update will help. I just had this issue when I switched from dsl to cable. Also plug the internet connection directly into your box to see if it works.

OK, so it all started working again, but I will post this info anyway so hopefully the problem won't occur again.

    1) I have the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network card, and a Netgear Wireless Router, I believe it may be model WGT624.

    2) I haven't tried it wired because I do not have a driver installed for to do that, can I get one from the Dell website.

    3) Can you tell me how I can cut and paste from the command window, or what you need specifically, it spits out a lot of info.

Thank you for the help! :)

Use the print screen key and paste the result into InfranView or any other image viewing software. Then crop the image to restrict it the window you want to show.

Yes just plug your service tag into Dell's support site and you'll get all kinds of drivers.

I also did get a driver from Dell's website so I can use an ethernet cable. Thanks again for the help! :)

Looks like your getting properly connected to the router, and it's giving you an appropriate IP address. Start checking your connectiivity by trying to ping various addresses.

At the command promt, type (without the quotes) "ping 192.168.0.1" and see if you get a response from the router. If so try pinging your WAN IP address (you'll need to log into the router to find out what that is). If you get a response there, then ping each of the DNS server addresses (from your IP config) and see if they reply.

The point of failure will tell you where the problem is. If the 192.168.0.1 address fails to respond then it's an issue bewteen the client and the router. If you can ping the router but not the WAN address, then it might be a cinfiguration issue on the router, or it might be an issue with comcast. If you can ping the WAN address but not the DNS server, then it's something to do with comcast.

In the latter two cases, I'd log into the router and release and renew your WAN IP address and see if it gives you a different address and/or DNS servers. When I had cable (all hail FiOS!) Comcast had a habit of changing DNS servers but they'd not get updated on the router without a release/renew.

If you can ping all these addresses ans still can't connect to web sites, then I'm stumped.

***EDIT: OK, I see that the screen shot above was from AFTER you were connected again, so my advice is moot at this point. But if the problem should re-occur yau can take these same steps.

The problem has been resolved. It seems that our coaxial cable that was going into our 3 way splitter was a POS. I took it out and replaced it, it is probably older than I am. :) Thank you for the help!
