To be blunt- i understand completly nothing in computer networking. I have a broadband internet computer (windows xp) at home, and a recently aquried vista dell 1520 inspiron. can i, without a router, establish an internet connection to my laptop?

I believe its possible, infact it may be pretty plug and play as vista streamlines alot of that kind of stuff, but I see no reason not to get a router, or a switch of some sort they are so cheap and it will eliminate the varible of the other pc wich can cause problems and require it to be on all the time to use.

Even a 5$ pocket hub would probably work just as good or better than relaying thru another computer.
