I'm currently running a home network with a linksys WRT54GL. Everything was going fine until one night when all of a sudden I can no longer connect to the internet via the router. I checked the internet connection through my on-board ethernet and the connection was fine. What could be the problem here?

PS. I don't broadcast my SSID, have a really interesting SSID, and am using WPA & MAC filtering.

    Thanks in advance.

What firmware on your router are you running? Have you power cycled both the router and cable/dsl modem?

I might suggest moving towards DDWRT firmware if you are up to it, and schedule nightly reboots. Routers tend to get kinda flakey after many days or weeks of uptime, and instead of waiting for it to have problems, I just had it reset on its own schedule.

I'm currently running the latest firmware by linksys, 4.30.9. I have already tried power cycling both router and modem and have also tried resetting the router. What's this DDWRT firmware you speak f?

    http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/stable/dd-wrt.v23 SP2/standard

Then use the dd-wrt.v23_wrt54g.bin image for the wrt54gl. Any firmware update must be done through a WIRED connection (not wireless).

Personally speaking, I find WPA2 encryption plenty. MAC filtering and unbroadcasted SSID's is just unneeded overhead. While the DDWRT firmware might improve a few things, the basic functions of connecting to your router shouldnt make a difference. I would reset the router completely, and then add on plain WPA2 encryption, and see if things start to improve.

Thanks a lot, a factory default reset seems to have done the job. I'd like to run a WPA2 myself but my XBOX360's doesn't support it.

Also, I have a little problem after I flashed the firmware you provided. I can't seem to access the settings anymore. 192.168.1.1 leads to nowhere. Thanks in advance.

Do a reset again and see if it comes back. I'm not sure what the wrt def IP is.

I just flashed my Linksys WRT54G with DDRT and at first the ip wasn't working but when I restarted my router it began working just fine. And yes the ip is still 192.168.1.1 User name:root and password:admin. When you finish configuring remember to change the password.
